Mods, looking for a ListServ type solution

Hi all,

I've recently relocated from Madison, WI to Lake Elmo, MN. Our new little neighborhood could benefit from an email Listserv (where people join and receive emails from the group). It would be used for general neighborhood information, alerts, sale items, etc.

Is it possible to set something up via a free (or cheap) web offering?

Any guidance you have would be appreciated. I 'googled' listserv, and it seems like server software. I'm hoping to find an online solution - without a lot of overhead for users (no signups, no ads).

A lot of groups are using either yahoogroups or googlegroups for that application. They are free, relatively easy to administer, and yahoogroups can be set as a private group.
