    Size limit on posts?

I'm still relatively new to this forum and wondered if there are any limits on the size of a post.
I've spent the past week replacing the bearings on the arbor and since it was quite a job, I prepared a post with an extensive description on how I did the job with lots of pictures. It's about three pages long with 20 pictures. I used "Photobucket.com" for the pictures.
Or should it be posted as an article perhaps? Who or what determines if something is posted as an article?
I forgot to mention that my saw is a BT3000.

Tim, I've been pretty windy at times, but have never run into a maximum size limitation.

There is a minimum size requirement of 10 characters - or so I'v heard.

I think there's a limit of 4 pics per post, but you should be able to link to an album.

Try the articles section out, you should be able to create an article yourself and I don't believe Sam has a limit on pics in there.

PM me then and let me know how it works out for ya.
If it ain't broke.. don't fix it!!!... but you can always 'hop it up'

AFAIK there is no limit on post size. That said it might be nice to break it up into pages and post each page in succession, page 2 being as a reply etc. IMHO prior to posting in the articles section a topic should first be posted in the appropriate sub forum and after being subjected to constructive criticism possibly re-written as an article. It is best to up load all images to BT3Central for articles unless they are linked images to a URL that has a very good chance of always being available. IMNSHO image posting sites do not meet this description. They can change thier service terms at any time and refuse to host for outside sites.

I guess Thom has a different idea and can type faster than I, follow his advice.

Might want to try posting it as a PDF file with a link to photobucket or someplace like that ...

What???? Why would one want to do this? The whole point of the new section is to convert the articles to HTML for easier submission. With the added bonus of easier page loading.

there is a max character limit

back in February, when i posted about my son being assaulted in shop class, i managed to type out enough that when i tried to post, i got an error message saying to many characters.

I cant remember if it was 5000, or 10,000 though. I had to split the post into 2 separate posts.

I have since edited those posts (deleted), so i cant go back and check.

I once hit a message size limit while writing a private message on another forum that uses the same vBulletin software as BT3Central. I too don't recall the limit, with certainty, but I'm reasonably sure it was 4500 chars. I do remember that it was a semi-oddball amount, rather than an even thousand.

                      And the answer is ...

Okay, I just did some tests. It appears the message size limits are

10,000 chars for public forum messages
                      5,000 chars for private messages

No idea how the inclusion of inline images would affect these numbers. Links to images hosted elsewhere are presumably just counted as ordinary chars.
