Call me goofy, but I have carpet on the floor. I bought a big remnant from the local flea market for $60 or so, and just laid it on the shop floor. It is wonderful for flipping projects over without scratching up the wood, is comfortable on the feet, and protects the floor from all the paint spills I routinely make. I have a really old shop vac with a floor nozzle that is used to 'sweep' the shop, carpet and elsewhere. the remnants are so cheap that they can be easily replaced, although the current one is 11 years old and still going strong.

My 60 yr old legs appreciate the foam pads that everyone else is talking about. I also have them everywhere I spend extended amounts of time standing, workbenches, table and band saws, etc.
