    Home Depot won't cut melamine

So on Friday I went to the Borg to get a sheet of melamine for a small project. I needed it cut lengthwise to fit in my minivan, so I humped it onto a cart and rolled it over to the cutting station, then searched the store and cornered an employee who could run the saw.

He pointed to a sign on the saw that said, "plywood only, no MDF, no melamine." He explained that several employees around the country had claimed that their lung cancer was caused by fine dust, so management was no longer letting them cut anything but plywood.

I must have had a sad face, because he cut it for me anyway.

    Anyone heard anything about this?

I have not but I am not surprised at all. It seems prudent for them to all outfit their saws with good dust control for employee health safety reasons.

The world is a far different place than it was just 20 years ago.

In my "local" Borg Most of the tools are locked behind fence/gates. Shocked me when I first saw that.
just another brick in the wall...

Boycott McAfee. They placed an unresponsive popup on my pc.

My grandkids had a toy plastic saw that wouldn't cut melamine. If fact, it couldn't cut anything.
it came with two plastic pieces that were supposed to look like wood (it had grain patterns) and held together by weak magnets so you could pretend to cut it in half.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

My Home Depot is hiring, they sound qualified to work there.

I needed a 4x8 something ripped at my local Lowe's. I asked the guy like 3 times to make sure he cuts exactly 2 1/2' .
He reassured me he could make the right cut, and wouldn't let me set the saw up or double-check his measurements.

          He cut it short.
