    Making a good thing better

A couple of years ago I built a set of Shop Boxes from an article in Popular Woodworking (find it here: http://www.popularwoodworking.com/ar...hop_box_system.
I use them on almost every project. They give you heights of 30", 22" and 16". Very helpful. However, clamping was sometimes an issue.
So taking inspiration from the holes in Festool's Multi Function Work Table, I drilled a matrix of 3/4" holes in the top of each box. I also rounded over each hole with a router.
Next I made some clamps from hardwood and used 5-1/2" 1/4-inch carriage bolts epoxied into 1" dowel segments. This gives me plenty of clamping range.
Works great and the matrix of holes allows me to clamp a workpiece anywhere on the top. The photos should explain everything.

Very cool and simple. I like that a lot.

How did you make the "hold down" on your clamp? Just a piece band sawn out of a solid block, or did you bend it or something?

+1 to both the praise and the question

The clamps were made from a solid piece of wood. Here are a couple of links to DIY clamps:
