    Cutting wooden balls in half?

What's the best way to do it? There's gotta be a (safe) way.

Need to know a few details.

    What is the wood?
    What is the diameter?
    What is the project?

        Hi Ed

I found some jig for a band saw but maybe it will work also for table saw.

        Please have a look http://community.woodmagazine.com/dg...yCurrentPage=0

I made something some time ago very similar to the one Niki posted above. It was a one-time thing, so I used the parts on other projects, but it worked very well. Used a 3" hole saw for the holding indents, and a standard door hinge to hold one end of the two pieces together, then ran it on the bandsaw.

If you have a band-saw, I'd fab up a splitter so you can guide the ball through the blade. It's not the spinning as much as twisting or cutting straight. I WOULD NOT try it on a table saw. I've used a splitter to cut dowels that uses that principle. I'm sure it would cut spheres just as easy.

first you get uma thurman aka Black mamba. Then you give her a Hattori Hanzo sword. then you throw the balls at her.

To understand this you have to have seen Kill Bill I and the scene with the Baseball.

I have cut a baseball in half with a katana. Not a thrown one, mind you, but on a tee. Amazing how much material is contained in those windings. I sure wouldn't try it with a solid wooden ball, though.

I don't have a project. I don't even have a ball. Just happened to think about how I would cut the ball if I had to.

The link Niki posted looks promising. Now I just might have to try it in case anyone asks me how to do it.

unless of course, you were weilding an H. Hanzo blade.

Even the best blade cannot entirely overcome marginal skills such as mine, despite many years or training.

how bout you use on of those 45 degree miter sleds and turn it around so the ball is nested in the square then hold it down with a board with a hole in it like earlier
