Beauty has been defined in proportion to 1.618. If this is new to you, it is scientifically preceived as most pleasing to humans. Take a beautiful face for example. The raito of the face is 1.618 times the size of the forehead (that leaves me out). The ratio of the eyes is 1.618 times the distance of the spacing between the eyes. examples og on and on with the human body. A study of 20 some faces ranging from severly disfigured to beautiful shows that thousands of people across the world will rank the faces exactly the same regardless of race, ethnicity, etc as the ratios get closer to 1.618. The Parthenon and MichealAngelo's "David" use 1.618 in design
I've seen this at several places and 1 TV show even mentioned fine woodworking is designed on the concept.
Does anyone here pay attention to this when considering dimisions? any examples. height to width ratios? depths? drawers? that you use.
I haven't gotten that fancy and typically build based upon practical needs of a piece such as a bookcase or chair height.

), but I had to modify the top (and therefore the side) dimensions to "feel" right (basically I designed around 2 butts barely being able to fit on it).
