Yet another BS Box question ... edge gluing

I have 2 long boards with beautiful figure (don't recall what wood), that measure only 3.5 inches wide. I'd like to edge-glue several pieces to make a 7" board then make a BS box.

Will this work? Has anyone tried it?

I see no reason why this wouldn't work. A long grain edge glue with well jointed boards will be as strong or stronger than the wood. Just try to get as good a bookmatch as you can when you glue them up.
