    Water treatment

My new 4" well is supplying water w/ enough iron to stain clothes, tubs, fixtues, etc. We've had it tested by culligan & our local DHEC. There's some hardness in addition to the iron. Any advice about what sort of system? Culligan wanted $3K for a system to treat it.(ouch!!!)

    TIA

A filter, (30 microns) in front of a soft water system cost me around $1200 installed with a pressure tank 15 years ago, up here. I just used a local plumber to install the unit. Depending on the access to your inflow and electric, installation shouldn't take more than an hour. Check the big boxes for equipment and also get some bids from local plumbers. Even after 15 years 3,000 seems high to me. Where 'bouts are you located? If you've got a lot of new home construction going on in your area 3,000 might be what the market will bear.
