Murphy Bed

First off, it isn't actually a finished project yet, but it is installed and functional. I'll post updates as they occur.



Challenges:

• The instructions did not mention that the only outlet on the wall where the Murphy bed is would be covered by the headboard so we had to add a new one.
• I forgot to paint the bar that goes between the legs. so that is just a bare piece of scrap and when I bring up the bookcases I'll bring up the painted piece as well.
• The legs are out so we have a way to pull it open until the front is finished and the handles are added.
• Plywood on the right side decided to bend. It is bowed in right where the gas strut attaches to the side and then flares out at the pivot point of the bed. When the nightstands and bookcases are attached, that will straighten itself out, I hope.
• One bright spot was that I'm really impressed with the Benjamin Moore Advance paint.

Below is the look my daughter wants for the front and the bookcases, but there will be nightstands with doors on both sides the full 17" depth of the bed and 12" deep bookcases on top of that. The panels on the front of the bed itself are just going to be lipstick so I'll get those done before the next trip up north. My son in law is coming down in early December to build the nightstands and bookcases.

She wanted a Murphy Bed. That means she doesn't want it to show. Its a perfect illustration, perfectly executed.

They call it a hide a bed for a reason. I'll figure out the image issue in the morning.

The nightstands and face panels for the Murphy bed are complete and ready for the finishing room, aka garage. I'll get the doors and backs installed on the nightstands after painting. I still have two bookcases to build which I hopefully can complete tonight and then paint next week and a run up north on the weekend to get everything installed and completed before the Christmas guests show up.

Getting closer. I got the bookcases mostly done on Thursday night and finished them up yesterday after we got back from granddaughters dance competition in Sioux Falls. The remaining parts are ready for painting. Prime everything today and get the first coat of paint on tonight, and then 2nd coat tomorrow. Wedesday and Thursday for for the second sides that need it, doors and shelves, and load it all and drive up north for installation on Saturday morning.

I didn't have room in the truck for all the parts and the miter saw so Crown moulding will wait until January or so. and I mis-cut the kickplate, but otherwise it is finished.There are a few places we need to touch up the paint now that it is installed, but it is ready for Holiday company, arriving next week. I didn't get a photo of them, but the nightstands have 4 110v outlets and 8 USB ports built into the tops for device charging.
