A friend collects smoking pipes. His wife showed me a picture of a pipe rack( priced at over $400) and asked if I could make one like it. So with pilfered pipe in hand, I set at it. This is what I came up with. I laminated camaru and purple heart and used stainless steel for the tubes. I had to sneak the pipe back to the owner so I added a Dalek for the picture

Very nice. I am not a pipe smoker any more, but something like that would have been the "cat's meow", as they say.
Question: are the cuts for the bowls of the pipes tapered? And if so, how did you cut them?
Again, great work. Regards, Steve. -
Nice work and combination of woods! The Purpleheart swoing in the bottom of the bowl cups looks good.Don, aka Pappy,

Great looking rack (not moose or women ). The stainless tubing goes well with the look. Did you use a core box bit for the bowls? Nice finish. What did you use?

Hi guys. Thanks for the compliments. Before I laminated the bases, I cut through the camaru with a forstner bit, going from both sides to stop tearout, then ran a bearing guided chamfer bit with my router to give the shape. I got a little burning but I think it adds to the look.
I finished with circa's tung and teak oil. From the "deep south" part of Canada

A clever procedure for the bowls. They sure look like they're curved.

Thank you for all the kind words. I delivered to the customer yesterday( who promptly handed it over to her husband) and they were both at a loss for words. From the "deep south" part of Canada

Wow Richard! That is gorgeous. I smoke the occasional pipe. I have a 3-pipe rack but it is not nearly as nice as that one.David
