Post Office Box Bank

I built this for my graddaughter's 12th birthday.

The case is QSW, The name panel and back are Cherry. I had her name laser cut at a trophy shop. There is a shelf inside making the top a bank and the bottom a priovate hiding area. Only she and I will have the combination.

The Cherry got a coat of Minwax Cherry stain. The QSW was fumed with ammonia overnight. Finish is 1 coat of Seal-A-Cell and 2 coats of Armour Seal.





First time to use the Freud Box Joint set.

What a great project! I made some turned rattles for the new grandson and they are apparently great for pounding on things but this is a gift that teaches things that society seems to have forgotten (thrift and craftsmanship). Wonderful. Only down side is now I have another project.

Great project. I can see that sitting on a shelf in her kitchen in forty or fifty years, and her telling her grandchildren that it was made by their great great grandfather.

Thanks for the warm fuzzies! Still need to do some fine tuning on the box joint jig set up. The pins were initially too tight.

I picked several of them at a yard sale a while back. Most are braass, 1 or 2 are chromed. A few are the older twin dial set up. Hardest thing was finding someone around the Post Office that still knew how to work on them.

Very nice job Pappy! When I first saw it my thought was... how did he pull off that door front, wish I could do that! You're going to love the Freud Box Joint set I believe. I don't know what type gauge and fence set-up you have but it might require a fine tune. I fine tuned my jig with a small piece of self adhesive slick tape shimmed to the side of the register bar.

BTW.. you might find that with hard-wood it will be a tad tighter fit than with soft-wood so experiment with both to see what your results are...
