    Great Instructions!

Thanks Mark for taking the time and taking pictures and puting the instruction together! It is a great help for all of us with the older model!

I wonder if it'd be possible to get the pictures back on this great article?

Sorry, I had to move my site to a new server and actually create a new site. I'll try to edit to get the pics back.

Due to a change in forum software since this topic was first posted I am not able to update the URL's for the pictures. hopefully within a few weeks my old site will be back up and it may work then. In the meantime you could go here for a slideshow of the pictures in order.

              Hi:

I've had my BT3000 for a few years, and I've apparently been both blissfully ignorant and lucky when it came to shims. Not so any longer.

After an afternoon of cleaning and lubricating the blade elevation mechanism without any results, I searched the site. Between your article and Norm in Fujito, I've diagnosed the dreaded shim failure.

For whatever reason, I can't view any of the photographs in your article. Is there any way you can re-post or send a copy to me directly?

                Nice Job !!!

As I am a relative newbie to the site and also the 3000 saw I was just getting ready to perform this task (b/4 they bent) so the steps and pictures are great !!! One thought I had is if we could get your version and also Crockets version of the 3100 shim upgrade in the articles section that would be the ticket as with this shim design it sounds like it's not "if" this will happen but "when".

                        Mark,

I hope you get it published too. I have a .pdf of the upgrade procedure that I've sent out to a dozen folks or so. Still haven't been able to get it on the site.

That was an excellent tutoral but I suggest that anyone replacing the BT3000 shims convert to the BT3100 system. It only costs less than $20.00 and is no more work than replacing the original shims that have a habit of failing.
Hi Whaler! I'm new to this forum. I know I'm replying to a post that is quite old but I'm hoping that you're still around and can help me. I have a BT3000 which I've had for many years with no problems. Recently, when I've been trying to use it I noticed the handle getting stiffer and stiffer and finally I couldn't raise the blade at all. I followed Black Wallnuts instructions in the first post (which were great, btw!!). I found that one of my shims is bent and ruined.

So, I guess instead of just replacing the shims, maybe I should upgrade to the 3100 like you suggested. How do I go about doing this? And where would I order the parts from?

I picked up a used BT3000 and the raising/lowering was VERY stiff. After some searching, I read about the shim issue, and this post was INVALUABLE in getting it done.

Thank you VERY much for a great write up with great pictures.
