The magnet on a stick lay right next to the other tools when changing the blade. To many times.

Many times, maybe every time I've changed a blade. I also have mechanical fingers nearby.

So ~95% have dropped the nut or unexpectedly set the arbor nut in the shroud so it didn't accidentally get on the floor.

The big question is; How many times in a row? Right after retrieving the arbor nut by your preferred means did you drop it in there again?

I believe I've done that a couple times too... Never more then twice in a row though.

Hmm, maybe some time and trouble could be saved by magnetizing one of these and using it for removal and installation.

But then again, I remove the blade from the other end of the arbor, and leave the nut in place!!?

I'd drop one of those, too.

                  Many times

Clearly we BT folk have a problem with holding onto our nuts...

I keep a mechanics flex magnet around for just that reason.

I'm not sure I'd use an Ace replacement. All nutz are not created equally. Shear force and all that aside, many bolts and nuts we buy these days are from recycled steel from China. Recycled steel takes on fissures that don't respond well to torque.

Premium steel cut with high quality machinery also takes a sharper edge when cut, leaving far more lasting threads, that will reduce damage to the arbor thread ( I don't even want to think about changing the arbor if I don't have to)
I'm a safety freak with this kind of stuff, but $5 to not worry is a small price for me to pay.

I've dropped the arbor nut on many a different brands of TS i've used in the past and my BT presently. I have used like many of you a magnet to retrieve the nut. I use a old refrigerator door gasket magnet, its long and flexible and does the job.
