Are you buying this planer? It's not such a great deal. It's a 13", not a 14", and at Amazon a newer version is $319.

i think it looks like a pretty good deal, so i posted the link in the event a forum member was looking for a planer. and the tp 305, the $319 amazon available machine you referenced above, is no 22-580. yes, it is a 13" machine, i'm not aware of any manufacturers that put out a 14" planer, are you? my assumption was that the seller committed a typographical error. but the 22-580 is a very good planer, at least accordinig to the editors at popular woodworking in 2004:

      http://www.popularwoodworking.com/fe...aners.0204.pdf

it was rated a best value and compared well to the dewalt 735. the 22-580 is a 2 speed machine, both of which were faster than the dewalt, it had a greater maximum cutting capacity than the 735(the editor's choice in the test) it came with in and out feed tables, had greater weight for more stability, got a "5" rating from the editor for ease of knife changing and was quieter by 5 decibels. given the editor's comments, the CL 22-580 referenced previously appears to be worthy of consideration for anyone looking for a 13" planer.
