With HD relaxed return policy, I would say to give it a try. What do you have to lose, maybe 10 minutes at the return counter if it really sucks as bad as the reviews say?
I doubt you will find any cordless phone for less than $30. Besides, how often do you talk on the phone in your shop?
I researched this about a month ago and the Craftsman and the GE aer the same phone. It got terrible reviews but if I can pick it up for $30 I'm liable to try it. I get stranded (yea, right) in the shop while the wife is out and miss some good calls. Hmmmm, on the other hand, if I miss the wife's calls I don't have to take a message and then remember to tell her before the person calls back -LOL!
The only cordless phone I would recommend is the 5.8 GHZ Spread spectrum. They are a little pricey but In 3+ years I have never had any interference in VA Beach and Oceanside, CA. The 2.4 GHZ spectrum is very over crowded and your microwave oven is 2.4 GHZ so 1000+ watts is a great jammer. Even your neighbors microwave can interfere if they are close enough. All three are ISM bands. So 5.8 could face the same problem someday but I think its a few years away at least. I have AT&T phones. And the baby loves to throw them. The worst thing that happended so far was a cracked battery (they now use rechrageable Energizer AA which are cheaper than the ones in my older model. And he Chipped the tip of the antenna. But I doubt you will be throwing your phone around. An occasional drop doesnt seem to hurt them much.
in any band though spread spectrum ( frequency hopping) will be the best quality over single channel.
YOU DONT HAVE TO TRAIN TO BE MISERABLE. YOU HAVE TO TRAIN TO ENDURE MISERY.
