So, did anyone receive it yet? This is apparently a promo item, kinda like the AOL CDs. I did not bother to get it cause I already carry a 256MB with me, and everyone I know who might need one already has one. They are real cheap, and are common promo item.

They come in two varieties, however:
    1. The 'logo' variety'. This is just a regular USB drive with company logo and URL/phone, and can be used as any other drive. The other day our company put out in the lobby a whole crate of those (in 64MB size) out in the lobby. Primarily for visitors, but anyone who wanted could grab one.

    2. The 'demo' variety. These come with a multimetia presentation and the like installed on them, and set to play once plug it in. One problem is that the demo variety is often factory write-protected, and MS one looks like it could be one of those. If you can erase it and use it, great - but be ready to toss it.

I think it does come with some files already on it but if it is write protected you could just format it.

Once a USB key shows up in you drive list, you can reformat it just like any other drive. Not that there is usually need - these things usually come formatted.

However, you cannot reformat read-only media - like a non-rewritable CD. If the flash drive is factory-protected, can't reformat it either.

To format the drive in Win XP just right click on My Computer and choose Manage, then choose Disk Managemnt, then right click on the disk and choose format.
