    Mauna Loa Erupts

11/27/22, Mauna Loa erupts, It's the largest active volcano in the world. So far it's not threatening any homes, It's been flowing towards the Daniel Inouye highway which is in the middle of the saddle between Mauna Kea & Mauna Loa. So the flow down the slope to the saddle area is fairly flat so that should slow the lava. Good news is you can see the fountain on the summit on a clear day and looks fantastic at night. Lucky it's not an explosive eruption. Yes Kilauea fissure is still spewing lava but, not endangering anything. So we have 2 eruptions going on now. Lots of post on Youtube, check it out. Good time to visit my Island (Big Island/Hawaii) and get out of the cold on the continent.

I'm far from the it in Hilo town, Mauna Loa stopped late yesterday, the flow never crossed the highway between Mauna Kea & Mauna Loa. Kilauea stopped too, it never flowed just oozes out and filled bottom half of the crater, it's in Volcano National Park. There was no danger to any homes as it flowed towards the saddle between Mauna Loa & Mauna Kea which is flat land between the mountains. So it just stalled, pooled there and crusted over. The only road it crossed was the road on Mauna Loa to the weather station. You could view the Lava about 1 1/2 Mi. from the highway, the county set up lava viewing sites along the old saddle road. It was a big attraction for the tourist & locals. So far all the Mauna Loa eruptions are not violent explosions like Mt. St. Helens so we're fortunate.
There is a legend of Pele the fire goddess and her sister Nanakaokahai goddess of sea, google it. Strange as it seems, when Mauna Loa erupted, it snowed on Mauna Kea at the same time, Hawaiians believe Nanakaokahai was warning Pele not to cross the middle between them.

              Happy Holidays to All!

              Thanks for your concern Capncarl
