In my opinion, the event itself wasn't political and I don't think talking about it is.... but I also think that the story itself might be in question.

I watched this reported on three different News programs yesterday, including some personal comments by those veterans. All had a different take.

One said that some "Congressmen" came down and pushed by the gates. Another said that after a couple of phone calls, the guards were instructed to push back the gates and allow the Vets in and that was repeated on another news program.

Then last night I see another News program show several of the Congressmen who actually caused this situation, rushing in there and taking photo ops with the Vets.

Nothing NEW there... it's the same ol' politics, first you cause the problem then you try to take advantage of it for self-promotion.

So now I do think this is political, or at least right on the edge of it.

Several posts in this thread have crossed the line. The event is not really political and I believe it can be discussed without dragging in the politics of why it even happened. I am sure each of us has our own opinion as to the current shutdown, its cause, and how to fix it and all three f those would be political in nature and BT3Central is not the place to discuss them.

For the record if you feel a post crosses the line use the built in post report function. Do not start an argument over it. If you don't like it or take offense use your browser back button and stop reading the thread in question. To post several times trying to make a case as to why a thread crosses the line violates the spirit of why we have the rules.

Here is a park, wide open at the entry point with NO permanent gate showing, just baracades put up to prevent people from . . . going in.

Why did they need to put up baracades in the first place? Dumb. That memorial is a symbol of our freedom, and the men and women who gave their all that we could have freedom. And living men and women who came to see it. It is not inside a building, it is outside. It is America's, your and mine. I can't for the life of me figure why they had to put baracades up? To protect our selves from each other? Have we come to that?

That memorial is not about "privileges" but rights that have been earned. Not about politics but freedom that has been earned with sweat, tears and even our own blood. That is not something that one arbitrarily locks behind a baracade in the name of politics or law. It is wrong to legalize freedom. It is wrong to place this in a camp of vandalism when it should not have been closed in the first place. One can shut down public parks by removing the workers, but it is wrong to close the park off to those it belongs to!

I hope I never see the walling in of parks like this to control the people to whom it belongs - those whose friends and family gave their life for our freedom. Memorials are NOT to be used in politics, nor to lock people out.

Other moderators, if you need, delete this. I don't see it as political but about freedom, heritage and memorials. This is where I stand on this issue. You might see it differently. I abide by your decision.
