I have heard it said many ways over there. The way he spelled it means stomach I think. Different areas have different dialects just like the US and other countries.
Sounds like he might just be on a small layover. If that is the case, he won't get to see much of it. The Frankfurt airport is not a good sampling of Germany.

OK, i got it, Weinerschnitzel is a america chain restaurant. Weiner with a capital W (AUstria is known as Wein, something from Austria is Weiner)
Schnitzel is a breaded, escalloped piece of meat, like Veal. So Weiner Schnitzel is an Austrian breaded veal cutlet, basically. I'm getting hungry.

Wein = Wine (pronounced the same too)

Wien = Vienna, the capital of Austria. Wien is the actual German name for that city, Austrians speak German (at least for the most part).

The rule is "I" before "E" except after "C". But that might not apply to names. In your case it does.
