My doctor will be happy as I will be lighter and healthier. I was pretty adicted to the cupcakes and fruit pies but have cut way back infact I don't eat them at all any more. 300 lost their jobs here. ComCast close 2 call centere here and move them to another state 300 of jobs. Campbell Soup is closing the plant here next summer, excess capacity and an old plant to expensive to upgrade here in CA. 600 out there. My neighbor is losing his job but will be able to retire as he will be 62. No labor unrest in this one. Just had a stike at a major Grocery store that can't compet with the non union stores. The settled but don't know who blinked.
My understanding from the news reports was the union wanted Hostess to close so they could get a better labor contract with whoever bought the assests, at least that was the general theme here. They got part of their wish. What happens if Walmart buys the assests?
Better question, what happens if nobody buys the assets. A good example is International Harvester. Up to 1980 they produced a line of light trucks (2 ton capacity and under) including some seriously stout SUVs. A UAW strike in 1980, combined with the gas crunch of that time killed off International Harvester's light line. A pity too. I really liked the Scout 2...
I'm really going to miss our Hostess Outlet store, I could buy a tote of old bread for $7.00 and feed the horses for a month on treats. It was cheaper than potatoes!
a sign of things to come? I haven't eaten any of there products in well over a decade, not a fan of them, but still sad to see an icon of american history die. A whole generation will not know what a twinkie is!
