    Whirlpool Dryer Rant

Last September I bought a Whirlpool Duet stackable washer to replace the 15+ year old machine that died. Last weekend the dryer didn't heat so I bought the matching dryer. Lowe's had a major sale on appliances and it was going to be a 3 week wait for a new unit so I opted for the display unit.

It was delivered and set up today and I asked about reversing the door so it would swing the same way as the washer. I was told that to reverse the door I needed a $19.95 kit. First time in my life I have ever seen an appliance with a reversable door that needed special hardware to revers it. It is the same kit for Whirlpool and Maytag dryers but neither Lowe's or HD carry it in stock. I can't se any difference in the hinge that wouldn't allow it to work on the opposite side other than the hinge pin/bolt would have the nut at the top instead of the bottom, unless the spacing on the screw holes ar different. Seems to me to be aother way to gouge the consumer. I did call an independent repar company and he said I did need the kit.

The kit sells on Amazon for under $15 so I guess that is the route I will go.
