i felt a smug satisfaction when i heard the news, for justice served. I don't think mass celebrations are in order, altho each to their own. One life taken for 3000 on 9/11 and another 2-3000 dead and billions spent since in wars is not winning or cause for celebration.

So, what was the last thing that went thru osama bin laden's mind before he died?

I didn't mind the demonstrations. They were mainly young people who were very young at
9-11-2001. The didn't burn another countries flag, didn't wear masks to hide their face. The didn't drag a body of person from another country through the streets, like we have seen on TV from the demonstration in the Middle East. Youthful exuberance. I grew up living with the Cold War and learned the Duck and Cover at an early age. When the Berlin Wall came down I celebrated with some German families. I have Muslim neighbors so I did nothing like I wanted to mark the occasion, just put my flag up in morning like every other day. I do have one Muslim neighbor who is a complete jerk and denounces the US every chance he gets, don't know what his problem is but when I saw him this morning I smiled and gave him the double thumbs up. I think the US as a country responded civilly to the events. Is the war on terrorism over, not by a long shot and probably never will be, will they get message? no, they are too radical to change. Will we do another operation like Sundays? hope so, that is the only way to deal with them especially when other countries will not cooperate.

My oldest son, because of his security clearance works at the China Lake Naval Weapons Center here in California. The Base is a pretty happy place right now, but security is tight. They all wonder how many FA18's and F15's were circling at 40,000ft as backups? I am sure there were some lurking some place close if needed.

I happen to agree with Natausch's sentiments. Gloat in private. Acknowledge Bin Laden's death and say little else in public.

Plus 1 here. If anyone ever deserved to be killed it was him, but gloating over a killing of any kind is sinking to their level, IMHO.
I would like to think we're better than that.

An interesting side discussion. I'm a traditional midwesterner, every day Memorial Day to Labor Day illuminated and not on days with rain in the forcast (even she's an all-weather). First time out will be Armed Forces Day, but feels like almost always a rainy day here.

There are six of us in the neighborhood; ironically the same group that take snow removal serious, who fly Old Glory.

The only real challenge we have is five of us are traditionalists and one has his up as soon as mid-april. Not that we look down on him, but at least one conversation about "Bob flying his flag in the snow" per year.

Other thoughts, how/when do you fly? Obviously fair weather states can also honor January 1, Inaguaration Day and President's Day (or Washington and Lincoln's days). But never been a fan of flying when snow on the ground.

Maybe this will put your mind at ease. If it were me, and you want to the fly the flag, don't let snow deter you, especially since you have an all-weather version. You can then insight a riot among your neighbors about their lack of patriotism. Here's another angle---if US troops were in battle in a winter environment where snow had accumulated on the ground, do you think they would hesitate to fly the colors?

being that most flags are nylon or polyester they are probably all weather flags. If it was raining and thundering I would not put one up, or if a hurricane or very, very strong winds or a blizzard were predicted then I wouldn't put one out.

A bit of rain, clouds, mild snow during the day, I think its OK if you feel like flying it and it can be seen. I surely don't think there's a season or a social rule like no white after labor day!
