    Hey Tommy,
You stole my line. Having a broken ankle and it's now back in a cast (the break was back in the beginning of Jan., this is now the second surgery I've gone thru. I got more metal down there than I care to think about. If this doesn't heal soon, I'm going to have them cut if off and replace it with a peg. I already have a pierced ear, so the earring's no problem. I always wanted to own a parrot, and wearing an eye patch is no problem. And like you, I love to say Arrrgh.

But seriously, I'll heal, I hope your eye does the same. Sorry to joke about all this but otherwise, I might just stick my head under the band saw and end it. Haven't been in the shop all this year and I'm getting real tired watching NCIS and House re-runs.

    Feel better my friend,
    Bruce

Sorry to hear about your condition. Sounds like eye drops is an easier fix than surgery. Here's hoping you cope well.

I saw the Doc again today for more test which showed up negative for the glaucoma(false positives?),anyways he's sending me to another specialist later next week for some more definitive testing. Hopefully it all works out,but now I'm beginning to wonder if this might be the Medicaid shuffle.I do have a scratched cornea in my right eye(the one their looking at) from a childhhood incident but now I'm wondering if this isn't what might be going on unecessary testing to plow ones pocket. Guess I'll know more next week

And yes, I lust for Ziva, those Israeli women are definitely hot. Same religion too. Would have my dear departed mother quite happy. Although. I'm kinda fond of Ducky, too

Well its confirmed I have Glaucoma in my right eye after seeing (pun intended) a specialist here. Now I'm on eye drops,(was hopin for the california solution ) for the next 60-90 days to see if the eye pressure will drop enough to be maintained with drops alone. If not lazer surgery is the next step. Now where'd that dang parrot go, Here Polly

                    Sorry to hear about that.
To lighten the mood, I've got a spare hoop earring I can contribute, Parrots are waay too expensive though.
                    Sorry about that.

Sorry about the glaucoma, unsolicited advice follows.

                      Sorry about the Glaucoma Diagnosis.

We have a family history of Glaucoma, so some things we, My Great Aunt, Mom, Brother and I have found out.
                      1. The drops usually work.
                      2. The holes they burn in with the laser work imediately to lower pressure, but can be overkill in some of us.
                      3. Get a Retinal photo. (Image of the Fundus). It shows the Optic Nerve and can help show there is or is not damage occuring from year to year, otherwise it is subjective.
                      4. Make sure you get the images from your doc if they retire, becuase you want those and the pressure measurements to track your progress.
                      5. Stuffed parrots are easier than live ones, but the live one will last longer.

Sorry to hear bout the eye problem. I was just told that I had a "mild" case of glaucoma and prescribed some daily drops. On top of that have cataracks (sp) in both eyes, got the left eye done last week and will have the right done tomorrow. What a difference!!! Close right eye & "new" left bionic eye everything looks bright, clear and amazing. Looking (!) forward to correcting right eye in the morning. Guess will have to get new glasses as these won't hack it. Already can see things without glasses couldn't before. Marvelous; a 15 minute procedure changes the whole world! Thank the Lord for good insurance.

A little more information on Glaucoma.

Glaucoma is damage to the retina resulting from high pressure in the eye. "Normal" pressures vary with the individual - but higher than 20 is usually considered "high".

Glaucoma is diagnosed by imaging the retina and by a Visual Fields test. Over time, comparison of these test results will show the beginning of damage and allow diagnosis of Glaucoma.

There are several types of drops that can be used to control glaucoma. The mildest drops may work at first, but over time stronger drops are required. The stronger drops permanently change the color of the eye.

There are two laser surgeries - the more common one is SLT, selective laser trabeoscopy. In this procedure, a laser is used to clean out the drainage ports on the eye. It takes several weeks for the pressure to reduce, but often a 5 to 7 point reduction can be obtained. Many people will still need the eye drops, but with the SLT can usually use the milder drops (which have fewer side effects).
