what to do with 1960 Encyclopedia

We had a set of World Book encyclopedia of about the same vintage. I spent a lot of evenings reading thru them

I got a complete collection of World Book encyclopedia (60/70s) and they look fantastic in my bookcase. The factual information may not be entirely factual anymore but it represents a bygone era of beautiful thick textured covers, heavy paper, colorful prints and GOLD leaf edges. I don't use them anymore but they are nostalgic pieces from my childhood.

I have a set of Compton's Picture Encyclopedia, 1926, passed through the generations. It's useless, yet some of the coolest pieces in my book shelf. Leather bound, very interesting to look at.

The information in those books is interesting to read, published before any type of PC movement was afoot. To read first hand accounts of the Civil War and WWI (The Great War, war to end all wars just happened), published in a volume, unmanipulated by editors and PC police is pretty neat.

But, in reality, they are useless except for the conversation value. My boy likes to read through them at times, and they are mostly written in a poetic tone.

They'd make a wonderful set of bookshelf safes for various calibers.

My sister has some fancy-shmancy picture frames in her bathroom with some pictures in them that look to have been taken from some reference book (flowers, in this case).

Perhaps go through and remove any nice artwork in them and put them in some hand-crafted picture frames.

Might make nice gifts.
