    This is an outrage!!

New 3 Stooges movie with Sean Penn, Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro (huh?)...

    http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/20...stooges-movie/

What are these guys thinking? Note to Farrelly brothers: Curly was FAT. Moe was a surly JERK--Sean Penn mighta been better for this one. Larry was balding and had CURLY HAIR. And they were all very JEWISH.

They need very good physical comedians who look something like the part. Being Jewish would be helpful.

    Here are my nominations:

For Curly, either Jack Black or Drew Carey.

For Larry, Owen Wilson or Will Ferrell.

For Moe, Adam Sandler or Ben Stiller.

    Any other thoughts?
    Jeff

Because this movie would be a sure thing.

Classics can be redone, sometimes with success and even improvement. When its status as a classic or icon is because of the actors, not the story, LEAVE IT ALONE!

That may be true, but remember there have been 4 "Curlies"--the first was Shemp, not Curly, and Shemp took over again after Curly had his stroke. Curly was the best, but Shemp was a pretty good second in my book.

I have read and reread a biography of the stooges that was ghostwritten with Moe. It makes me teary-eyed every time I read it. They were very talented vaudevillians, hard-working, hard-living, and kept us laughing in spite of our problems. Wish they were still around!

Jim Carrey is gaining 40lbs for the role. Benicio Del Toro has played several characters who were surly jerks. He was also pretty funny in 'Snatch'. Balding is an easy fix.

I can't help ya on the Jewish part.

Amen. This is going to be a worse trainwreck than Steve Martin trying to fill Peter Seller's shoes in the Pink Panther.

Some days I think I work with the 3 Stooges. But then I remember I could laugh at them instead of grumble

Am I the only male on the planet that just doesn't "get" the Stooges? I'm all for dumb and slapstick humor, but I just never found them funny.

A couple of years ago a made-for-TV movie about the LIFE of the Three Stooges was made, and it was pretty good. Michael Chiklis (sp) (The Commish, Fantastic 4) played Curly and did a great job.

If this new movie was about Larry, Curly, Moe, Shemp, Joe, Curly Joe, et al - you know, a BIOGRAPHY - it might be worth seeing. But trying to recreate the spirit of the Stooges with new people? Fuhgeddaboudit!!!

I'm a big Stooge fan. I tried out a lot of that stuff on my little sister.

Recently? Or long enough ago that she's talking to you again?

Actually, I think the 'bad guy' robots in "Short Circuit" did the Stooge's pretty well after 'Number 5' reprogrammed them.
