    My Evil Plan

The printer we have at home doesn't have Linux drivers, so the desktop is still XP. I got my wife a new laptop today and will put Linux on it. I don't print at home much so not having printer support from my laptop doesn't bother me. Anyhoo, I will wait until she gets tired of going downstairs to print and is willing to replace the printer with one that supports Linux. Then I can move the XP desktop to Linux.

It sounds like you've already done your research, but for other users who may not have, here's a good resource for checking to see if your printer will work with Linux: http://www.openprinting.org/printer_list.cgi

I bet you were wringing your hands while concocting this dastardly scheme...

The plan worked to perfection and way sooner than I anticipated. I had an email from my wife this morning. She found a NIB printer on craigslist for 15 bucks. She also sent me a link to an open source site that listed the printer as supported under Linux. A week or two ago she didn't even know Linux existed.
