    Gas War

A new quick shop opened up a couple of miles from my house last monday.
They started selling gas for $1.15/gal.This started a war with another store a couple of blocks away.I bought gas for .85/gal this morning on my way to work this morning. They had to get city police out to direct traffic out of the staions during peak hours.Lines have been 1/4 mile long and blocking major intersections.
I never would have thought this would have happened a year ago.
I think therefore I .....awwww where is that remote.

And to think only six months ago it was over $4 a gal. Makes you wonder how much profit those idiots, (the refiners, not the station), were making before!

I work in a gas station/quick stop type store and I have been watching the gas prices drop and I am thankful as we have a GMC Yukon to fill up. But yesterday Mark went to Yakima, which is about 35 miles away from us to look at drill presses, and such for a project he is working on and we had those Safeway PowerPump rewards on our Safeway Card.

(Warning, sit down before reading) LOL..

For I believe it was 16 or 17 gals of gas he paid 7.00, or just over that for a full tank of gas. Well worth letting him go down and look around and I even let him buy a drill press and a mortising attachment for the new drill press.

$1.71 at ARCO AM/PM Friday morning. Was down to about $1.50 before that. California has Designer Gas so it is alway cost more.

I just keep reminding myself that the extra tax on our gasoline pays for the polititions trips to the sunny south.

In Maryland and some other areas of the U.S. as well, there are minimum selling prices for Gasoline and certain other items (smokes, liquor etc., think extra taxation).
We have had very few price wars in Maryland in the past and they do not last very long before one of the state's agencies puts an end to them.
I guess it can be good and bad. Drive out the weaker stations (no capital reserves), then raise prices to the extreme afterward to more than make up for charging less previously
Alot of the movement upward in prices of gasoline, diesel, home heating oils etc. was due to "Futures" pricing of Crude, I believe some play the Futures Market like there in Vegas or Atlantic City. OPEC was liken it though

We are still around $2.50 Cdn for a US gallon. 32% of the price is tax. That tax helps pay for many services that we Canadians take for granted.
