    Dumb Crooks

I have to post this story because it is something that I am sure you all will find very humorous.

Last night at work, or I should say about 1 AM our time, I had three young men come in and buy a couple of things and left the store. I wasn't busy so I went outside for a break and watched them walk away from the store I work at. Across the street there is a Jack in the Box, and they have a drive thru sign. I watched as they walked across the street and watched one of them run to the sign and pull it off and run down the street. And they had seen me walk out of the store and look at them. So I called the police and reported it and then walked out and watched as these young men walked down the street, not running but walking.

About 5 minutes later the police showed up and I told them what I had seen and I don't think any of us could believe that the boy had done that right in front of me. It was one of those moments where I just laughed and shook my head. But you know it makes a great story.

I imagine they now think it wasn't a good idea to be so brazen.

You might say they are dumb crooks, but in actuality they fit the profile of a very dangerous type of criminal, a brash/brazen one that doesn't care, and one that I wouldn't classify as creating a humorous situation. That type of individual can be easily misunderstood, and underestimated, with regards to your safety.

It appears that they figured you wouldn't get involved. They were wrong about that as much as they were wrong about taking the sign. What can one do with a Jack-in-the-Box sign anyway.

So, did the police pick them up?

Reminds me of what happened to a police officer that I know. He was driving along a city street when he noticed a pair of feet sticking out of a drive through window. Daviv stopped, grabbed the feet and proceeded to pull out a rather intoxicated male. The person in question claimed he was looking for bus fare on the floor of the drive through

As far as I know they did stop these young men.

And Gary, I have no idea what they were going to do with the sign, maybe just see if they could actually get away with taking it. I had my boss print out some pictures of the young men in the store and when I left work yesterday after doing some training on the computer, I saw an officer and pointed out to him the young man who took the sign and he said thanks a lot.

I wish more thieves were that stupid. Those dumb ones really make it easier to catch them.

Yes it was illegal, but I'm not sure crooks or criminal apply here. Melissa used the term 'boys'. This, to me, is more of a prank type thing than a crime. Unless they have a history of trouble, the boys should be punished with community service or servitude to the store but not get a criminal record.

Kinda like stealing the red 'cherry' off the old style cop cars (with the cop sitting in it). Not that I would have any personal knowledge of that kind of activity.....

Pappy if you ever get up this way remind me to not let you near my dads car. It is a 1962 Ford Galaxy restored to a police car. And I, like Mark would love to hear that story over a cold one.

Ha, I found a picture of his car for you.
