Asking the Forum a Question..... ?

I noticed on a thread I started.. Dairy of a Chest the other day that a Star was in the corner. I didn't pay much attention. Today before posting there I clicked onto it and discovered that a lone star is TERRIBLE rating with two being bad. I don't believe I have ever seen a thread in the two years I have been visiting here rated 1 star.. 2 star.. or even three stars.

The lone star was given by a lone poster as there is only one vote. To get the 1 star TERRIBLE rating I must have done something rather bad in their mind. But... with a simple push of a button to give the lone star while remaining anonymous... I have no idea what the obvious major problem they have discovered is.

Dangerous safety violations... mis-informing WW technique... bad Queen's English.. not enough jokes... my poor photography techinquess.. etc.. etc..

So... would the lone poster that took their valuable time to rate and give the lone star please post what major violation of whatever they find so the problem can be addressed publicly?

I have an idea of what the problem may be.. but will not address it until I get the word straight from the horse's mouth...

    Thank you... whoever you are?

Don't sweat it. I think almost nobody pays attention to the ratings.

It wasn't too long ago I found out about reputation points. Now it's stars. I wouldn't worry about it.

interesting. when i saw the star, i thought that it meant that some one liked your thread and though that i was a step above a normal thread, hence the one star. boy, one should never ass-u-me!

i wouldnt worry about any of this, like what cgallery said : "ignore it". you are one the most distinguished posters here, so nothing to worry about.

It could have been as simple as an inadvertent mouse click, or somebody just screwing with you. In any event, there does not seem to be a reason your thread could have been so poorly rated. Frankly, it is a waste of your otherwise generous time to worry about what one person thinks, anyway. Post on...

Took me 10 minuets to even find the stupid star thing. Don't worry about it. I think the account of your chest is great and shows how things can be done. I enjoy and learn something from most of you posts so keep it up. Wonder if you showed a different kind of chest if your ratings would go up?

I would not worry about a stupid star, here or anywhere else for that matter!
Sounds like it is someone else's way of leaving negative feedback without
having the guts to really say it, and back up what they say! Kind of like a negative comment on an e-bay seller's reputation....big deal! Nah! eezlock

It is found in the header where the words rate thread is found. The header starts out read view first unread. I'll rate it a 5 star.

Okay, I voted 1 star because you made me think that threads on forums were supposed to have stars, and now I'm mad about it...

There you go. A simple misunderstanding. I don't think it was meant to rate the thread "terrible".

Since most topics never receive a rating it is best to ignore it. I've not found a way to either shut off or change thread ratings.

BTW I was surprised that your topic did not generate much traffic in the first few days! I topic about woodworking that many have said they would like to see more of.
