    Lazy Mouse

Since I got such great help on the computer audio problem, I thought I'd ask about a mouse problem It's wireless and labeled Dell but I think it's made by Logitech. Several times lately, it's quit working, the led that usually stays on has gone dark. Once, I loosened the screws that hold the mouse together and it started again. Last night, I took it apart and blew out the dust (a problem common with the audio problem, when the wind blows from the north half of Oklahoma ends up in our yard ).

Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts,

Survey says #1 answer: Check the batteries!

    If that isn't it...

Is it a wireless mouse/keyboard combo? If so does the keyboard stop working also?

Make sure the USB connection of the receiver is good. Unplug and replug several times to clear out any dust.

Sorry, batteries check good. Dell sells the keyboard and the mouse together so I assume they are a combo. Keyboard works, mouse doesn't until the LED lights up again.

I also have the Dell wireless KB/mouse combo. Have you hit the green button on both the mouse and the receiver? I think it's either the KB or the mouse where you have to hit both to get them to work.

I also noticed that when I moved my PC to another corner (~10' away) I had to reposition the receiver closer to my mouse for some reason. Makes no sense, but it worked.

All that being said, no lights sounds like low batteries to me, or a failing mouse.

Yep - if the batteries are good and it has a clear shot to the receiver, I'd say it is time to replace it.

Of course, it may be worthwhile to try the old "take it all apart and put it together again" method. Seems to work about 25% of the time for me.

I'm in the 'try the reset button' camp. I had a Logitech and this usually solved my problem but remember to have the receiver close by so that the two can converse.

I have had a couple of wireless keyboard and mouse sets from Logitech before getting the laser mouse. Here are the issues I ran into (none of which were terribly important - only annoying):

Battery life in the mouse seemed remarkably short. I got the mouse with built-in rechargeable batteries.

Location of the receiver seems important - it can't be too near a monitor or a printer. Mine is, but it is sensitive to location. I had to move it around until I found its "sweet spot".

              Regards, Steve

Yea, check the reciever location. Devices in between it and the mouse can have an effect. My pocket-pc phone will mess with my logitech wireless.

Fresh batteries, if they're replaceable. A few of logitechs mice have non-replaceable batteries. The software may be saying it has a charge, but the cells might not really have the capacity. I got couple of the MX lasers when they first came out. One is in a drawer now because it won't hold a charge.

Okay, should have added it uses alkaline batteries and I have a battery tester as well as the option to test by substitution. When it happens, no amount of pushing the green buttons has any effect. I guess it's getting tired!
BTW, some upgrade a few back increased the battery life substantially.
