    Patriots?

I am confused. There are many in my neighborhood who proudly fly the flag. But is Congress in session at their home? Are they a ship at sea? I fly my flag on holidays and always take it down at sunset (see below for sunset). Why do these folks leave the flag up day in, night out? The flag ends up tattered and worn.
Anyway, sunset on the first really nice evening we have had this year.

According to section 6 of the flag code, it is acceptable to fly the flag 24 hours a day.

It says it may be flown 24 hours a day only if "properly iluminated" at night.

Enforcing flag codes would be a full time job. An interesting flag that is awesome is the one on the Vehicle Assembly Building. It's painted on the building, so it is displayed 24/7. As for nighttime illumination, I can't remember if I saw it at night. I would guess it is.

        Nice sunset shot.

Great sunset shot but you broke the rules, only post pictures of our nasty days not the beautiful ones. Yesterday was a great one, looks like we are back to normal this morning though.

            paragraph 174 (a), U.S. Flag code

"It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness."

I guess I should count myself lucky that there are not as many searchlights as flags in my town.

I apologize for my ignorance. I do believe that at one time only the following were permitted to fly the flag at night.

My mom always flew the flag on patriotic holidays, but also the first day of school. I didn't catch the significance of it until many years later. Now we fly it those same days.

Seems like I end up apologizing on this thread a lot. You are right.
