I found this on Craigslist here in Jonesboro, I pick it up at 6:00 PM today. I have never worked with Sycamore, How does it work? Is this a good buy, if not I am buying it anyway, hope He has different kinds of wood. Bill

Sycamore is easy to work with and the QS has great grain. Turns well too. I'm not sure if there are actually two species but the saw mill I buy from also carries Red Sycamore which seems the same except for a light red color (poor man's cherry).

Havent used it myself but according to my wood reference its a generally straight grained light to medium weight HW, maybe a bit lighter (in weight) than cherry. It says it works and finishes good. Color can be decieving but in the book it looks to have a light reddish hue so more like a cherry than a maple.

As just over $1/bd ft sounds like a good deal. Make sure its fully dried, did he cut and dry himself and for how long?

I bought the Sycamore for $20.00, it is 1 1/4"'s thick, wider than the 8"'s He stated. It is kiln dried, and it is nice. He also

has some Pecan, Walnut, and Cherry, all of these are left over from projects that He has finished. He tells Me He will let Me

know When He decides to sell the other leftovers. He said He would also inform Me when He finds another deal. Nice Guy,
