When my father-in-law passed in May he left behind a 2005, Ford Taurus. Since it's nothing special I haven't been able to draw a bite on it when offered at $10K (KBB says $10.7). I'm about to drop it to $9.5 to get it moved because I'm burning depreciation as well as inspection and insurance fees. Is Vehix.com worthwhile or not. I'm not having any success with the local newpaper, craigslist (too far away), or the local shopper - heck, I'm even thinking of taking it to auction but, ooo, the beating we're gonna take there. The rest of the family is getting impatient for me to get this settled but I'm afraid of the possible aftermath; "What? You let it go for how much? How hard did you really try"? Of course, right now it's, "Well, $XX is better than nothing". Well, weigh in and, as always, I appreciate your thoughts.
Vehix.com, anyone!

You could try something like CarSense. They will purchase a decent vehicle. There is no way that you will get anything close to book value for that car. It is too common of a car.
Another option is to put the car on eBay and set a reserve price that everyone can live with. If it doesn't go for that price, you are not obligated to sell it. This will also give you a good idea as to what people are willing to pay for the vehicle. Make sure you get plenty of good pictures if you go this route. Lots of pictures makes it easier to purchase the vehicle.
Hope this helps,Ted Kitch -
Everything is easy for those who don't have to do it... Ask the rest of the family if they'd like to take a crack at it...
In the meantime, you might try AutoTrader. I've had fair to good luck in the past there.Comment

If you renamed your shop the Taurus shop, we'll know you traded it for all new shop equipment, and a lot of nice hardwood.
But in the meantime you could try here for some immediate coverage and exposure.
Oh man, if was all mine to spend I'd kick out a wall and expand the shop. After this last project I already see that my latest rearrangement of the equipment is a disaster and my choices are limited.Blessings,
Chiz

I have a 97 Taurus, that I thought that had finally died, this spring with155k on it and a trashed motor, it was worth zip. I went to the Ford dealer he had a 06 rental return for less than 10k. Turns out, according to him that almost all the Taurus sales are for rentals, very few go directly to consumers. I did not want another car payment so I replaced the motor and a/c compressor and wiring harness for $2400 and 10k later its still really strong. Its not a sexy car, but a good driver and you can put 10' lumber in it and close the trunk!John Dyer
