Ok... Here is a rough plan of the deck I will start building tomorrow. The side marked as 3' and the left side will be doubled rim joists. I am trying to figure out the actual cut length of the left side and the top joist - does my normal 1.5" allowance for the thickess of 2x stock change because it is meeting at a 45 degree angle or do I make it 2 1/8"?

the beveled edge of a 2x4 will be close to 2 to 2-1/8" like you said.

Thks loring. Sometimes I overcomplicate things though. I mocked some stuff up last night and if I just cut it to length as normal but bevel the cross cut it will come out ok. And I call myself a woodworker...
