    Banks!!

I went to my bank last week to see about refinancing my existing variable APR home equity line to a lower fixed rate. I figured they could just flip it. Nope. Had to reapply for a loan I already had. I made them get a manager in the loan dept on the phone and threatened to go to another bank before I gave up and went back through the application process. Today the loan dept called and approved me but wanted closing costs and few other fees. I told them to stuff it, I had 2 other offers from places that want my business and would waive the fees. I lied, but the rep said she'd 'see what she could do'. Called back a few minutes ago to say they'd waive all closing costs and fees.... No idea why the bank makes it so friggin' hard.

Simple it's called profit and rip-off. Ever looked at what bank's earn today!?! Stems from the 70's and 80's when inflation was killing everyone so the US Congress deregulated banks and credit cards to allow higher interest rates. Of course, no provision was added to lower rates when inflation died down. So, we pay and pay and pay, while getting 0.5 - 1.0% on savings!!!!

All I had to do was threaten to change banks to get higher interest, and guess what?

LOML is Customer Service Mgr and Vice President for a bank locally that has branches over the state. She says they will take You if You let them. They grade Her on things like money returned to customer for returned checks, and many other things. She just wants to stay till She retires. Bill

Banks, lawyers, politicians... Isn't it amazing how these words seem to belong together? Not that long ago what credit cards companies do today was called loan sharking and illegal. Today it's big business...

I used to use a credit union. Then I was on my honeymoon and couldn't get to any of my money. Travelers' Checks don't cover everything. Now I use a bank and carry Amex.

I thought I would post an extra thought to this thread. LOML's former bank owner had a yacht anchored in Florida and they flew down every weekend, the name on it was OVERDRAFT. He paid for it with the proceeds from returned check charges. Bill

The wife and I have used credit union's exclusively for about 20 years now. We spent a year traveling in our motor home, went 12,000 miles. Started in WA state, down to TX, up thru AR and over to MS, then up to OH, across to NE, then up thru MT into Canada. Went from Lethbridge, Alberta west to Vancover, BC, then back into WA state, then on to TX where we stopped and are still at. We never had any problem getting money. Had to pay $2 or $3 to use someone else's ATM to get at the money a few times, but it wasn't a problem.
