I've been looking for a cheap dependable replacement since I had to sell the Dodge. Looks like I found the perfect fit. Hopefully I'll have it in the driveway tomorrow. Original Dauntless 350 and passes Virginia inspection. And at $600 if it's crap, I still won't really lose.

Glad I could help. Performance is a good shop. Just sad to see that their own bikes are gone. (though I'm sure it was just someone elses frame repainted for them.) If you have a store close to you, they do great jobs on servicing them also.

okay, picking the truck up on Thursday. Talked to the guy and he says he has used it quite a bit to haul furniture back and forth from Front Royal to Manassass and that it is totally road worthy. To his knowledge the drivetrain is all original and has no leaks/slips.


I can already tell you that it is not a 1 ton. Jeep didn't make a 1 ton civilian jeep truck in 1970, only 1/2 (which is what I suspect this is given what I can see of the bolt pattern) and 3/4 tons. It would be nice if it's the Camper special (dual gas tanks) but I don't think it is. I've already found a source of extra sheetmetal in case the thing is rotted out for less than another $500. If it's just surface rust, then it will be sanded and primed and painted shortly after (the original two tone paint scheme but in 1973 colors, I love the look of the orange and white 73's)

I'm getting syked. Even LOML is getting alittle excited. Trying to figure out if I should name it. Either something with "Husky", "Wolf", or "Gladiator" in it? ah, choices.

Got the Beast home

she runs very good for being 35 years old. I had her up to 70-75 on I-81 without burying the pedal. I will need to do a good bit of work to her, but the drivetrain doesn't need anything more than a tune-up right now (I did have to tighten the alternator belt, I could spin the alternator without turning the belt).

She has the Original 350 as was expected, but the tranny is a three speed instead of the 4 I had antisipated. No problem, just fewer gears to change and you don't stay in 1st or 2nd very long in this thing (1st is good to 10mph and 2nd to about 25).

There is quite a bit more rust than I was hoping, so I will need to do alot of sanding, priming and body filling before I can have a new paint job done. Anyone have any advice on doing this stuff? I'm new to it and want to get it right. Do any of those rust "converters" work for places that I can't really get to to sand?

For $600 I'm happy.
