i think this is the third bowl from that spalted ficus that I have. This one shows more and different spalting than the earlier two - this one has green spalting in addition to the black (another surprise.) Turning is getting more difficult - the wood is really no longer wet, and tearing out quite a bit, even with freshly sharpened tools. This one is very close to 7inches at the rim, and ~3.5 inches tall. BLO and Shellac finish. Thanks for looking.

Wow, that is spectacular! Thanks for sharing. Who would have thunk: ficus! Hereabouts they are wimpy house plants, not something growing large enough to turn. I do like the shape you came up with, very elegant. -
Thanks Gerd. This was an outdoor ficus, several decades old, very large. Its been interesting, but I think I'm glad I didn't take more, due the difficulties. I'd rather have more camphor - I love that wood. I have a few more pieces from that large root I've been working away at; I may turn on of the those next.Bill in Buena ParkComment
