    Blanket (Hope) Chest - Final

Some may recall this project I made for my daughter about 7 years ago, a blanket chest of Philippine Mahogany. I intended to photograph and post the completed chest, but realized I never did. After my daughter picked the finish (red mahogany stain and wipe-on poly) and I completed, including the aromatic cedar lining, piano hinge and friction lid stays, due to a lot of moving around due to jobs and life, she wasn't able to take delivery until today (I've had it carefully stored this whole time.) So I grabbed the camera to document the completed chest before sending it off with her. Thanks for looking.

If she enjoys and loves it as much as my wife does her hope chest ( which was her mothers store bought chest, not custom made like yours) it will be cherished for generations! Did you sign the chest? Write a note in the lid? A signature by the maker and a note to whom it was built for really does something for a custom piece! That will mark this chest long after you are gone! There is still time before she picks it up and she will love you for it.

Thanks all for the kind words. When we opened it up, that aromatic cedar smelled as fresh as it did on the day it was completed. She couldn't wait to get it home, and I hope it gives her many years of good service.
