Porter Cable PC690LR Router - $80 from Amazon (after $20 rebate)

Amazon has the PC690LR on sale for $100 shipped, less a $20 rebate from PC. Nice router for $80 shipped....fixed speed only though.

    The rebate:

I have both a fixed and a variable 690 with two fixed bases, one D-handle, and one plunge base. They are nice routers. You can get a variable speed thingy if you want to use a single speed in a router table spinning big bits. I've done this with my single speed and it worked fine. Nice well built router that will last. It is not the latest model but then I'm not either.

This router was the first router I ever bought and it's still my go too router for hand held routing. As Jim said it's not the latest model but many time change for change's sake isn't always a good thing. For anyone looking for a workhorse for not a lot of money this is the deal to jump on but you'd better hurry as I doubt if their supply will last long.

I have that router along with a D-Handle base and a plunge base. Great router and that's a great price.

Sell it "nearly new" for $80, and buy the new one on sale, so you get that "feel good" satisfaction of a sweet deal!

                  RE: PC rebate

Fine print in rebate form says "original receipt from independent retailer".
Does this apply to something bought on Amazon? I am not sure.

It's been a few years, but I've bought several tools (including Porter-Cable) with a rebate offer from amazon.com and never had a problem getting the rebate -- aside from the usual eight- to 12-week wait, of course.

They (amazon.com) usually have the rebate form available as a PDF download. For the receipt, just print one out from your account page.

Good question, esp. since the rebate offer is not not listed on Amazon.
