Distance between kitchen cabinets for 30" range

How much extra space should we allow between two cabinets for a 30-inch range to slide in? Thanks, Bill

Distance between cabinets should be right at 30". If you look at the specs for a variety of 30" ranges you should see that their max width dimension averages out around 29 7/8" to give you room to slide it in a 30" opening.

It's not so much the space between the cabinets as the space between the countertops on either side. Typically the countertop overhangs the cabinet so you'll need to figure that out first.

I would make the gap between the countertops 30 1/4" so you have a 1/8" gap on either side.

Stan beat me to it ... extra space = none. But you do need to ensure that you have an honest 30" opening from front to back. If the wall behind the run of cabinets is not straight, causing the cabinets on one side or the other (or both) to sit crooked, things can get tight.***

If the countertops overhang the cabinets by even the thickness of the laminate, you'll need to take that into account.

This is a consideration for the spacing. For whatever is planned for either side to note that an appliance will be placed. For a straight line, the edges of the countertop may be flush with the cabinets.

As a general rule slide in stoves are 29 7/8", but I've seen them vary smaller or larger. It would be a good idea to actually measure the stove for its dimension. It's also necessary to insure the two cabinets/countertops on either side are level, and the fronts are on the same horizontal line.
