    strop

I've been into sharpening lately, so I made this.

I got the leather out of the scrap bin at a leatherworking shop nearby. Cost: one dollar. The body is a chunk of birch out of the cutoff bin at my lumberyard. Cost: 25 cents.

So a buck and a quarter worth of strop. Dimensions were determined by the leather scrap. If this proves useful I'll go back and get some more (a five dollar scrap piece is quite a lot of material).

    Not so elegant, but useful.

Isn't it amazing how times have changed? Did that now, they'd lock you up.

A guy might come to the conclusion that you all were an unruly bunch (at least as youths).

This particular technology wasn't familiar to me until I learned more about sharpening.

Yep, I felt a strop a time or two myself. I like the use you've put it to much better.

You'd be surprised how hard a 4'-10" Italian beautician can swing one of those! I got it even if she thought I was guilty of something. When it was handed down to my sister whe she had her first child, sis chopped it into little pieces. I wish she ad told me beforehand... I'd have like to had a whack at it myself! Ah, tender memories - LOL!

                          strop....

Dear old dad didn't have a strop to use on me and my two brothers.....
but he had a BIG, Wide, Thick, leather belt that he used to get the same message across to all of use the was more than effective in my opinion.
