    What happened to our locations?

Underneath our avatars, our geographical locations used to be displayed. I can still them if I go to a user's profile page, but that's not very convenient.

Is it possible to bring that feature back?

I can't find the switch to turn it on as a display item. IIRC this was one of those things we lost with the upgrade. In an effort to present less background "noise" for portable devices.

Another WWing site I frequent also had the same issue with disappearing locations. They got the locations back on the full site but they aren't present on the mobile site probably for the same reason you stated--getting too busy. I'm fine with that because 50% is better than nothing.

Although most of the people posting these days are the same ones whose locations are probably buried in my head somewhere, I think it still adds that extra personal touch to know where people are writing in from. Think about call-in radio and TV shows--especially Car Talk. Those guys can go off on whole tangents based on where their caller is from. I've seen conversations on here with the same premise.

Anyway, I personally would love to have the locations back underneath our avatars on the full site. And if you could swing it on the mobile site, all the better.

If you're looking for screen real estate, I don't really understand the energy meter--if you're looking to free up space--and one could argue that showing the Join Date right underneath the Avatar could be alienating newbies from posting, but that's only my opinion. I also don't understand why your Join Date is only showing Aug 2015.

        Thanks,
        Paul

As 99% of the time I use the 'LATEST ACTIVITY' view it doesnt show the same user profile and I never even knew about the 'energy-meter' what is that anyway?

I think it is more of a matter of not a preset option that can be turned on or off as many settings are. For example avatars and signatures are options that we have decided to enable or keep enabled with the upgrade in software.

I found a thread on a vBulletin support page that pointed people here on how to add locations. Seems like you need an account to see the images, though.

I'm not looking to give you more work, though. It doesn't seem that straightforward which is a shame.

Thanks Paul. I'll get with Chris and Dave and see if we can add this back.

It's simple enough to see the location - just left click on the avatar or name on the left and it will show your locations (or a blank if you don't have one entered like Black Wallnut's)

Yes, I know that. I just think it's more convenient if the location is already underneath the avatar (like it used to be) without having to do that extra step.

I am more than happy to take a vote/start a poll on this. I don't want to create more work for the mods if I'm the only person who wants it.

Thankfully I think that was quickly disabled, since this is a family friendly forum, and I don't think a boob showing a location would be appropriate.
Wonder what you were looking at when you typed that?

I'll see what I can do to get it back. The template modifications aren't typically difficult, it's figuring out which of the hundreds of templates needs to be modified.
