    MLCS offers Spindle-Belt Sander

    I got an email today from MLCS with an offer for a new spindle/belt sander that they are offering. (Introductory at $199.00)
    https://www.mlcswoodworking.com/shop..._sander_anchor

    It is the same basic model that Grizzly offers here:
    http://www.grizzly.com/products/Osci...ce=grizzly.com

    I mentioned the Grizzly one last June after I was in Springfield Grizzly. It was offered much cheaper then ($149). Grizzly's is now up to $229 now.

    I wonder if HF will have a model like this before long?

      I've had the Ridgid version for years... it's the same price. It's one of my favorite tools, and I'd recommend going with the Ridgid since it's a known quantity.

      Ridgid also appears to be larger, with a larger table.

        I read a review on the Grizzly somewhere in which the purchaser wanted the Grizzly because it took up less space. That is a plus in that situation, but I personally like the idea of a somewhat larger table of the Ridgid. This does give options considering they are the same price.

        The MLCS / Grizzly has a 16 3/4" by 16 1/4" table;
        The Rdigid Table is 19" by 19 1/4", if this helps.

          Here are the specs on the Ridgid. https://www.ridgid.com/us/en/oscilla...spindle-sander ; and, here is the purchase information: http://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-Os...4424/100061671

          While these are all the same price, I think a comparison between the products would be wise. It looks to me like the Grizz and the MLCS are very much alike. Also, one might want to consider the warranty and availability of the product. The Ridgid can be purchased locally (or should I say at your nearest Home Depot, and it has a 3-year warranty and is eligible, with registration, for the Limited Lifetime Service Agreeement.

            I have had the Ridgid since 2005 and finally broke it. What happened best I can figure out is that something fell into the wear plate and jammed the belt sanding assembly tang as the assembly moved up and down. The wear plate snapped under the pressure and allowed the belt sanding assembly to jam somehow and stall the motor. I managed to epoxy the wear plate together and started it back up. Then I discovered the motor shaft had given itself quite a bend and the vibration was horrible. The entire motor assembly has to be replaced. It is currently in a local Ridgid authorized repair shop waiting for the part to arrive.

            Best as I can tell, all should be done under the LSA and we will see how it turns out. Hard to beat this kind of warranty when you correctly register the item.

              Got the machine back yesterday with new motor assembly and wear plate. No charge. Far as I am concerned, Ridgid's LSA is as advertised and very good.
