    Good use for Alder

I have 3 large boards of Alder 100" long 8/4. Not sure what use they can be put to. Fairly plain grain and not that hard so any thoughts out there?

That's a lot of smoked salmon!

Some of my first real WWing projects used alder. I made a screen door for our townhouse in San Diego. The exterior was painted and was south facing but we had protection from the sun by a hill. We didn't get a lot of rain either so it held up well.

I also made some nightstands that we still use 12+ year on. I applied a gel stain to darken it more like cherry. Worked so-so. Nowadays, I just use cherry.

With one of those I could magic up some nice figured walnut and quilted maple!

Try your hand at luthierie and build a body for an electric bass or electric guitar. Electric basses tend to be made with Alder, Ash or Basswood. Basswood tends to not like holding critical things like fasteners for strap buttons, Ash is heavy as a tank, alder is a great solid wood that won't kill you with weight on your shoulders...

When I find a flat board that is not too warped up..... I build a Tiny Table. About 8 bf per table. Adler might stain up nice.
