Gate & Fence to the Backyard

It's been about 5 yrs since I've moved to CA and this is my first ww project done! No wait...2nd. I built a Redwood table...which I'll have to find pics to...but for now here:

Is our double door entrance to the back yard. I took down the 10ft section of the side fence and replaced it with double door that make up about 6'-8" out to out on the post and about 2ft wide fence sections on both sides. Door is 5'-8" on the sides and 6ft at the top of the arch...roughly 2ft between the top of door and top arched arbor. Doors about 3.5" thick total.

It's made out of Redwood. The 2x4 for the fence & fence 1x's and the center of the door were recycled from my fence section. Door is made up of 1x material that was jointed with biscuits and is sandwiched between 2x material. The top of the door is cut out of 2x8 resulting in a approx. 2x6, bottom is 2x8 and the sides are 2x6. Door frame was jointed togather with pocket screws. Door frames were glued on the center flat part and screwed togather from the backside.

Top arched is made out of 2x8 and then jointed together in the middle by pocket screws. 2x2 with angles cut at ends are added to t top of arch. The arch is supported by 4x4 Redwood posts that are attached to the top of the 6x4 pressure treated post through a cap plate that I built out of 2x6 material.

There was already a 4x6 post on the right side, I added another on the left side. The existing post was out of plumb...had to fix it first. The fence of the right side is cantilevered of the right post and is not attached to the house.

We finished the doors using sikkens prolux SDR RE (for CA) transparent sealer in Redwood tint...came out darker than the sample because I did not shaken the can properly before applying to a tester...🤔

We also redid out front yard..got rid of the 3ft slope to sidewalk and a miss rock retains wall and added some stamped concrete.

Very nice! I really like that. I'm sure your neighbor is pleased, too.

I miss having ready access to redwood. I could get it at the HD down the street when we lived in San Diego. Now I have some leftovers that I'm holding on to for the right project.

I bought my red wood from Lowe's. I had to spend some good amount of time to select a few dry pieces, the rest of the pieces at the store were very moist
