I scour good will and yard sales for stuff that I can use in
woodworking such as costume jewelry, furniture pulls and knobs
and whatever... I saw this guy at my favorite good will store...
he had a broken toe, broken husks, a crack in his head and was
dirty and lonely, I adopted the little guy for 2.50 and the costume
jewelry pin for 50 cents. We made him a new toe, and new husks
and polished him up with furniture polish.
He now graces a little table, that we built around him in all recycled
wood that was once Church pew kneelers.
It lights up the wall unit at night, and that is a good thing as the
wall unit on the other side has a light on a little table and it always
bothered me that the light was unbalanced.
I wanted to use poplar like the wall units, (made in 2003) however, in the testing of
the stain color -- the oak appears darker in the corner and it looked good,
and besides it was free and that's always a good thing.
I also tried to mirror the top of the table to the top of the wall unit.
