    Cute little functional project

iI'm This was inspired by necessity. The head guy bought up a bucket of wood scraps from
the workshop. I got out my clip board and started drawing up a kindling box to
fit the hearth. We also made up a little poem ( together) to go with it.

I glued the poem on a 1/4" piece of natural QS oak and then applied the coats of poly.
I made leaf patterns ( we cut seven leaves) and a squirrel pattern and we cut them out
    with the scroll saw.
We also made a few acorns, but they looked awful...We went outside looking for real
acorns to put on the hearth, but couldn't find any? Think of the irony in that, as we have
    many huge oak trees.

We put two screws in back of the squirrel ( leaving some space ) and it just clips on,
so that I could move him around. However, I think he looks good where he is.
The bottom is just a piece of Oak veneer with two strips of wood glided to the
oak veneer. I glued the wood strips to just the length inside...donno why we didn't
    do the ends?

Yes. it was fun. I had to charge my iPad before I posted pics...
it's not as cute as our charging station, non the less just as functional.

      Firstly, this was my inspiration

This is the finished product. Since it
came out a tad 'cuter' than I was imagining...I thought I'd just
leave all the scrolled wood natural, as I just wanted it to
blend in and not pop out. I know, I know, you can't take something cute
and turn it into a fine specimen.

Here it is on the hearth...

I have two more ideas for small projects.
I like doing these small projects as they go faster than
          building furniture.

Thank you gerti, and blademillsap...it's not fine woodworking, but is was fast and enjoyable.

I don't know where to put this ... so I'll try it here, I'm trying to set up an album,
with very little luck. I'm trying to post some birdcages we made, however only
the photos of the walnut cage appears.
The photos of the oak cage we made
don't show up??? Also I changed it from private to public -- and still no luck.
I also included descriptions of the projects and that doesn't appear?
                I'm working from an iPad.
                Any help is appreciated.
                Thanks, Joann

ok, I can read the description now, when I tap on it to make it bigger, now I just need to know
why the album is only holding three pic's.

Ok, I think I figured it out. I'll slowly add photos, as I have to go through the archives
                    to find the photos.

                        Thanks Black Walnut...
You can ignore my PM from yesterday. I think I figured it out, the album only holds
25 photos. So, to add more photos, you have to add another album.
