iI'm This was inspired by necessity. The head guy bought up a bucket of wood scraps from
the workshop. I got out my clip board and started drawing up a kindling box to
fit the hearth. We also made up a little poem ( together) to go with it.
I glued the poem on a 1/4" piece of natural QS oak and then applied the coats of poly.
I made leaf patterns ( we cut seven leaves) and a squirrel pattern and we cut them out
with the scroll saw.
We also made a few acorns, but they looked awful...We went outside looking for real
acorns to put on the hearth, but couldn't find any? Think of the irony in that, as we have
many huge oak trees.
We put two screws in back of the squirrel ( leaving some space ) and it just clips on,
so that I could move him around. However, I think he looks good where he is.
The bottom is just a piece of Oak veneer with two strips of wood glided to the
oak veneer. I glued the wood strips to just the length inside...donno why we didn't
do the ends?
