    Restore old bathroom.

Everything was made by us about seven years ago. Vanity, counter top medicine cabs,
    cabinets across from the toilet.

All we did was paint the dark cedar walls white, strip the wood countertop and leave it
natural, and replace the toilet. The sink is a Thirty year old Kohler sink in excellent condition.
We originally stained the counter dark to match the cabs. After stripping we left it natural, and
just applied five coats of poly.

It went from dark and dreary to light and cheery.
I'll be back with more pic's.

The cedar walls and tiles we did in 1985. We left the natural cedar ceiling, just painted all the walls.

glass shelves in cabs... There is a mirror above the shower, that why the cedar planking on the ceiling
      seems to keep going.

Pretty cool! I especially like the counter.

I'm interested if you have any tips on painting cedar. I'm looking at a house that has quite a bit of cedar and I'm not fond of it.

            Thanks JR and Jim.

JR. First we speckled in several knots, then did two coats of eggshell paint.
We originally planned to white wash it like we did our family room, but I changed
my mind and decided I wanted it solid.

What rooms in the house you're looking at has cedar?
I'll get pics of our family room that we whitewashed about eighteen years ago.
Since then we only rewashed it once. It holds up very well.

We put regular eggshell paint into a bucket and added water...then wiped it on with a rag.
it was very forgiving; if it was too heavily applied in some areas, we washed it off with
clean rags and hot water then reapplied it.

This is the family room cedar. The pics I wanted to post, won't post for some reason.

                That looks nice!

the house I'm looking at has cedar on one wall each in the LR and FR. In fact, the FR could have been done by the same builder as yours!

My brother says I should just spray it. I consider that to be a compromise to ripping it out and sheet-rocking it. I really don't care for it, but I like a lot of the other aspects of the house. Your pics have given me a perfect view of what it will look like with paint. Thanks!

Ha, ha, we did our walls ourselves.
it depends on your furniture and decor if it would look good either painted
or white washed. Our FR and bath are in the arts and crafts mode (the kitchen
is as well) so the painted look and wash look look nice.
Our LR and DR are more formal with traditional furniture and antiques, in my opinion
it wouldn't look good in those rooms. Having said that, a friend did her Formal DR
that had Asian furniture and it looked good as well...

I originally got the idea from friends that did their cedar with a cranberry wash in their
                  country style FR...It looked awesome.
You say it's one wall in each room. We put in a ten foot box window in the FR across
from the Tv. We sheet rocked inside the box and painted the same light beige/white
as the cedar and it looks nice.
Good luck with the house decision,
                  Joann
