From scraps to Christmas presents ...

A while back I completed a Mission style queen sized bed for my wife and as is always the case there were "scrap" pieces left from the several boards I had to cut ... this QSRO has such gorgeous grain I wanted waste as little as possible ... so I built these two Quilt Racks for my daughter and daughter-in-law and they will be presented on Christmas day.

I used analine dye to get the color I wanted and then overcoated with wipe on poly in a satin finish ... I think they will be pleased.

Beautiful, and I'm sure they'll be thrilled Christmas Day. I wish I had some scraps like that.

Very well done. I read the description before I scrolled for the pics and I was hoping they were Mission style. I don't think that QSWO would work as well in a "traditional" quilt rack. I really like them.

@all ... thank you for the kind words ... I've used this plan before and it was a pretty easy build.

I've cleaned up the shop (... sorta ...) and am ready to start the next Christmas project ...

Those are awesome gifts. If it were me, I would find it difficult to part with them!

What was your joinery? Is that a true thru-mortise? How about the other joints?

Those are gorgeous... I must admit though to being somewhat confused. There is no way I would consider the BF you had to have had there as scrap... When I think scraps I think small turnings or glue ups to make bigger boards...

@Radhak ... yes those are "true thru-mortise" joints where you see the exposed ends of the tenons ... the "rails" are actually set in grooves with spacers between so a little woodworking "trickery" there.

As far as this being a lot of BF for "scraps" ... yeah it really is but the previous project consumed sooooo much wood and required some fairly serious offcuts to get the grain and lengths I wanted that I was left with what would otherwise be considered baseline project material ... I still have enough "scraps" to make the frame/stand for a cheval mirror that I will make for LOML possibly for Christmas. Not much wood required for that.

Again thank you for the nice words.
